Yorkshire Stone, or York Stone, is a hardened variety of sandstone, specifically from quarries in Yorkshire that have been quarried since mediaeval times.
Yorkshire Stone is a tight-grained stone providing lifelong quality and a beautiful colour finish.
There’s a variety of methods online on how to look after and care for your stone paving or slabs – below we’ve listed our own 5-step guide to keeping your paving looking clean, fresh, and looked after.
- Regular Brushing to Remove Surface Debris
- Replace Jointing Sand to Prevent Weed Growth Between Cracks
- Use Acid-Free Soapy Water and Lightly Scrub Each Stone
- Use a Stiff Brush to Scrub The Surface of The Paving
- Very Carefully Use A Jet-Washer on Low Power To Remove Any Dark Stains
Almost all stone can become discoloured over time if it is exposed to footfall, rain, and the elements. It’s important to know what to avoid to prevent your stone paving slabs from staying discoloured.
Cleaning solutions that contain acids could create rusting on the slabs, so stay away from these. If you’re in any doubt at all, get free advice from the Paving Yorkshire team by calling 0788 559 5101.

Unfortunately, we don’t accept buy-backs for unused stone. We can however recommend local places that may purchase it from you.
If you’re unsure on how much you may need please contact us and we can help advise.
Unfortunately, we don’t! This is only because we can’t verify the quality and condition of the stone like we can from our newly quarried stone.
